The STAR course is a water safety awareness program for individuals who are not lifeguards but who may be in situations that require immediate response to assist with or manage an aquatic emergency. The STAR curriculum is customized to specific audiences including:
Parents/caregivers - with a focus on home pool safety, aquatic safety while at other facilities, and the importance of surveillance and layers of protection.
Group leaders - strategies for minimizing risk when supervising groups of swimmers on outings to the pool. This course is ideal for day care providers, youth leaders, camp counselors, teachers, and party hosts.
Water fitness and therapy instructors - focuses on minimizing risk and responding when an emergency happens during a water fitness class or therapy session.
Swim coaches - minimizing risk and responding during swim team practices or swimming instruction classes.
Water sports/adventure operations - protocols for reducing risk and managing an incident during use of watercraft, aqua park attractions, paddle sports, snorkeling and other site-specific water activities
Waterslide dispatch - protocols for reducing risk and controlling operations of waterslide
Support personnel at aquatic facilities - secondary surveillance strategies, emergency response, facility safety. This course is ideal for resort and hotel staff, pool and slide attendants, and health club personnel.
Public safety officers (fire, police, rescue personnel) - focuses on minimizing risk during a first-responder situation that involves an aquatic incident.
