Why Choose a StarReview or SwimReview?
A review is a practical and easy-to-use tool for improving performance. A StarReview evaluates lifeguards’ performance, and a SwimReview evaluates swim instructors’ performance.

There are many reasons that park districts, aquatic facilities, waterparks, and insurance providers choose SAI for aquatic risk management services and reviews:
- Experienced, professional review staff offer their expertise and support.
- SAI offers mentorship and an objectives-based approach.
- Many insurance companies and risk management agencies endorse the SAI program.
- You choose the frequency and type of review that best suits your facility and budget.
- Awards and incentive programs offer recognition and motivation for aquatics professionals.
- SAI stays abreast of current laws and regulations, cutting-edge techniques, and best practices to work with your staff accordingly. We recognize that as the facility operator, you have a unique understanding of how this information directly affects you and how you can apply it to your unique facility.
- StarReview leaves you with a remediation plan that explains what action, training, or other steps you should take to show compliance or improve operations.
To determine quality, reviewers visit aquatic facilities and evaluate what goes on among the lifeguards, patrons, and supervisors. The reviewers watch how often the lifeguards scan the water, determine the strategies the lifeguards use to remain vigilant, and evaluate the size and features of the zones the lifeguards are assigned. Reviewers then conduct rescue scenarios to assess the facility’s emergency action plan and the competence of the staff. The StarReview wraps up with an assessment of the risk management practices, policies, and procedures in place at the aquatic facility—and the equipment and management staff to back them up.
During the final evaluation time, a StarReview documents the standard of care related to prevention of and response to aquatic emergencies. The results of the review can be used in predicting the ability of the lifeguard, management, and support staff to manage risk and respond if an incident occurred during the evaluation time.
Based on the findings, a remediation plan is suggested, or those individuals and facilities found to exceed standards are recognized with the 3-Star, 4-Star, or prestigious 5-Star recognition award.
